Fun show everyone! I'm surprized at the lack of enthusiasm on Shine a Light, I found the trailer to be really good and I love how it shows a bunch of behind the scenes 'it could all go horribly wrong' stuff. Mind you, that is likely due to having worked in theatre, I just love that stuff!
My Blueberry Nights seems to not be getting the greatest buzz, but I will still see it. I find it hard not to love Wong Kar Wai.
Flight of the Red Balloon was here at TIFF 07 and it really has a touching pace to it. Hou Hsiao Hsien has a very particular shooting style (at least with this film) of doing all 10 minute takes, and only one take. I found the tone of the film lovely. Retrospectivally I wish I had seen The Red Balloon first, although it is in no way essential to the viewing.
Dark Matter was a big success here during the reel asian festival, I didn't get a chance to see it though. It does sound hard to describe! Kudos for the efforts 🙂
Any one seen UNDER THE SAME MOON yet?
Thanks Shannon. Good to hear about the positive buzz on Dark Matter. Still a bit undecided on that one but I'm leaning into the "see" category.
Kurt – I haven't. The trailer lost me at the end so I wasn't in a rush to see it and looking around town here, it hasn't even opened yet…unless I missed it which could very well have been the case this week.
As you know, I'm a little new to this podcast thing .. I have no idea why but I never even noticed you did them .. lol
Anyway back on focus, I gotta say Smart People was pretty decent I'd say it's a watcher .. and a nice surprise .. I think I had a similar concern about it being too smart for it's own good, but it finds a good balance .. & Quaid is surprisingly good.
I love me a little Quaid and it happens to open this weekend so guess what we're watching tonight! 🙂
And welcome to the whole podcasting business!!
