The end is near! There are only a few days left of VIFF 2013 but we’ve seen a lot of good stuff the last few days so Bill Harris (@soundjam69) and I compare notes and discuss Wadjda, Johnny To’s The Blind Detective and we praise the greatness of Tracks.

Eight days into the festival and we’re all still in good spirits! Bill Harris (@soundjam69) and I took a bit of time before our screening of Rhymes for Young Ghouls (which, by the way, is amazing) to catch up on the last few days of movie watching. We cover lots of ground, from the Ralph Fiennes directed period drama The Invisible Woman to the surprisingly great The Great Passage (for which an additional screening has been added).

We’ll have a more substantial update on the festival a bit later today but for now, check out the audio from the post screening Q&A with Ain’t Them Bodies Saints director David Lowery who just managed to squeeze in this little chat after arriving in Vancouver. The movie, by the way, is fantastic and plays again on Friday, October 4th. The director is also in town to present a panel tomorrow at the VIFF Forum.

For the first time in at least a few years, we managed to squeeze in an October preview, a show that is usually eclipsed and forgotten in the throngs of festival season. Not this year! Dale (Letterboxd), Colleen and I (Letterboxd), look ahead at the beginning of awards season.

This is perhaps one of the best podcasts we’ve ever posted. And I barely talk in it.
One of the most hotly anticipated moments of this year’s VIFF wrapped a couple of hours ago. Just two days prior to the series finale of “Breaking Bad,” series creator, showrunner, writer and director Vince Gilligan was in Vancouver and shared a room with 1,800+ fans and “Lost” co-creator Damon Lindelof (himself a huge fan) to chat about the show. The conversation was preceded by a screening of Gilligan’s favorite episode: “Face Off,” the season four finale episode which was written and directed by Gilligan.
We managed to capture the audio from the entire evening, all 90 minutes of it, which is presented here with a short introduction (it’s early morning – I may have let a spoiler for “Face Off” slip in there) for your listening pleasure.

Festival fever has hit Vancouver and with VIFF opening on Thursday, September 26, Dale (Letterboxd), Colleen and I (Letterboxd) came together to chat about the festival in general, the selections and even threw in a few recommendations – with the help of Next Projection‘s Adrian Charlie (Twitter) and Bill Harris (Twitter) who joined us in spirit.
Festival season as hit Canada! TIFF kicked off yesterday and VIFF is scheduled to keep the Row Three festival ball rolling until mid-October but before we get there, we have a lot of month to cover though from the looks of the titles, someone has decided that trying to release anything of note in September is a lost cause – with the exception of Prisoners. That didn’t stop us so last week (Letterboxd), Colleen and I (Letterboxd), Colleen got together to gush a little about VIFF and, of course, too look ahead at the paltry September openings.
Where the heck are the months going? One good thing about July is that it means we’re ever closer to festival season, be it Fantastic Fest, TIFF or VIFF. Before we get there, (Letterboxd), Colleen and I (Letterboxd), Colleen and I get together to check in on the August offerings which are a mix of everything from indie fare to early Oscar bait.
Sadly we missed the June preview, mostly sad because I missed my chance to wax poetic on how great Henry Cavill is, but Dale (Letterboxd), Colleen and I (Letterboxd), Colleen and I did manage to find the time, in the midst of a Vancouver heat wave, to get together and look ahead to July, a month that is full of somewhat promising releases.
