  1. I second Colleen enthusiasm for The Ruling Class, I caught it on my ongoing effort to see all of the Criterion films and was dumbfounded by this… seriously there is nothing like it. Peter O'Toole thinking he is God, song and dance numbers, its nuts.

  2. I could never figure out where Colleen came up with the electric messiah line – I'm looking forward to seeing it. Colleen's shiny Criterion disk is on my coffee table – will get to it this weekend!

  3. I think the adjective 'batshit' was born from someone trying to explain what they just saw in The Ruling Class.

  4. mmmmm, "If…" is a favourite, you should complete the trilogy with O Lucky Man and Britannia Hospital if you go down the first chapter of Lindsay Anderson's 'life' trilogy. It was a great day when it came out on CRITERION and many could surrender their ratty VHS copies.

    I'm currently sitting on the DVD of a Swedish film often compared to If… , 2003's "EVIL" whose director went on to make 1408. But we can forgive him for the latter.

  5. The film quality is better than this trailer would suggest but it does get at the spirit of The Ruling Class without spoiling anything:

    <object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hvBsk_jJ7j0&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hvBsk_jJ7j0&hl=en&fs=1&&quot; type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>

  6. Kurt – WATCH EVIL. It's AWESOME. I picked up a copy a little while back but haven't revisited it since I saw it at the festival a few years back. Actually, IF and EVIL might make a great double bill. Will have to search for If. It's on my zip list so I should bump it up a few notches.
