A new King in town?

Smmer is officially upon us but the real cause of celebration is the return of the full crew.

That’s right: Colleen is fully recovered and back, good as ever. Good thing too because she’s been missed!

Coming to you from a shiny new studio, in this edition of the podcast, Dale (Letterboxd), Colleen, and I (Letterboxd) dig into July’s offerings including another Avengers movie (sort of), Ari Aster’s new horror offering and a couple of great looking documentaries.

The end of an era.

Every few years a TV show comes along that takes a hold of public consciousness and is at the centre of watercooler conversation (is that still a thing?). While The Big Bang Theory also wrapped recently, the show everyone was really caught up in was Game of Thrones – did it live up to the hype?

Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) dive into the finale of “The Show” of the moment along with a couple of other returning shows and a handful of movies.

2019. The year of Keanu.

Can you believe it? It’s already the middle of the year and is it just me or has the movie game been a bit lacking so far in 2019? It seems as though beyond Endgame, the so-called blockbusters have been mostly lackluster. Will June change that?

Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) pour over the offerings this month and it seems we’re slowly crawling our way through summer movie season with a couple of promising looking options coming this month (inluding another great Keanu Reeves appearance. These never get tired).

Summer is nearly upon us and while that means a bit of a lull in the TV schedule, it, one would hope, mean more time for movies but alas, that does not seem to be the case.

As it is, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) did watch and listen to a bunch of stuff over the last few weeks and for the first time in what feels like months, I have read books. As in multiples. I am as surprised as you are.

50+ year old cheerleaders? Sign us up!

Technically we’re almost two weeks into the month of May but there’s also still a lot of month left and a whole lot of movies to look forward to.

While Colleen was unable to join us this time around, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) took a good look at the movies opening over the next few weeks and there’s a little something for everyone including a superhero-gone-bad movie that has at least one of us super exicted (bet you can guess which one).

Marina’s obsession of the moment

It’s been a productive few weeks for the ATC crew.

Dale (Letterboxd) continues to lead the pack with his impressive list of TV and movie watching, Colleen continues her domination of Preston & Child while I (Letterboxd) fell deep into the pit of “A Discovery of Witches” before digging into the back catalogue of TV shows which I had fallen behind on. All in all, not a bad haul of recommendations this time around.

The end is near. Maybe?

April has arrived and it is bookended by a pair of superhero movies which couldn’t be more different.

In between Shazam! and what appears to be the final Avengers movie, we have a boatload of other movies, some of which actually look pretty interesting. Bizzare right?

Join Dale (Letterboxd), Colleen and I (Letterboxd) as we dive into April’s offerings which include period pieces, shlocky-looking romances and more than a few bad guys needing to be put back in line.

Superhero Alert!

In a last ditch effort to fill some gaps leading up to the Oscars at the end of last month, I (Letterboxd) dug into the screener pile and reluctantly watched a few movies, some of which even managed to impress me. Meanwhile, Colleen has promised to keep better track of her media consumption but for now, she shares some of her faves from the past few weeks including a recent Netflix addition that I’ve got my eyeball on.

Also mentioned in this episode is the Cinematheque’s 24 Hour Movie Marathon. If you’re in Vancouver, tickets to the event are still available for purchase. If you want to follow along with us remotely, I’ll be updating on Instagram, Twitter & Facebook.

Can Matthew McConaughey pull this off?

Hello March! Spring is just around the corner as is the first potential blockbuster of 2019: Marvel’s Captain Marvel.

While there are only a few weeks to wait before we see if Marvel’s first female-fronted blockbuster is the success we’re all hoping it to be, Colleen and I (Letterboxd) – hopefully we’ll have the entire crew together in an upcoming show – also take a peek at the rest of the movies opening this month including Jordan Peele’s hotly anticipaged Us, Tim Burton’s live-action Dumbo remake, Harmony Korine’s The Beach Bum and not one but two Dev Patel vehicles.

Sean Penn impresses in “The First”

It’s been a busy few weeks of media consumption, particularly with so much TV making a return in January.

Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) have certainly been making a dent in our watching though surprisingly, more than even movies or TV, I spent a large chunk of the last few weeks consuming an unnatural amount of podcasts. Listen in for all our recent obsessions.

A note: I mention that Dan Mangan does a cover of R.E.M.’s “It’s the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine).” Correction, his cover is actually of “Losing My Religion.”
