After the Credits Episode 230: Littlest Hobo Media Spew – February

The best part of Altered Carbon was easily this new addition.

The Olympics threw a bit of a wrench into the TV schedule in February but that just meant there was more time to catch up on other things – though at my house, it was full on Olympic obsession which even led to multiple devices streaming various events which were happening at the same time. I feel like kudos need to be sent out to CBC and their excellent Olympic app which made it super easy to catch all of the action.

This week, Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) check in and share what we’ve been watching, listening to and reading!

Two bits of video we mention on the show:

If you haven’t already subscribed to the show, you can do so on iTunes, Stitcher Radio, Pocket Casts and Google Podcasts and while there, be sure to drop us a rating. It doesn’t seem like a big deal but it helps us grow our audience!

This is actually a real movie. That’s really opening. In theatres.

Looks like the plug which has been keeping the releases over the last few months to a few drops here and there has been removed and the faucet is now running at extra force with a ridiculous number of movies set to open in the coming weeks.

Though it’s likely still a week or two before anything major rolls in to dethrone Black Panther from the top of the heap, there are some great titles on the horizon covering everything from big spectacle to small indie horror.

Join us as Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) check out the long list of what’s opening in March.

Action. Adventure. Romance?

It seems like just yesterday we were ringing int he new year and making resolutions and here we are, already at February.

And what exactly is up with February anyway? Where are the cheesy romances, the indie romances and Nicholas Sparks adaptations that tend to come out this time of year just in time to coincide with Valentine’s day? Can releasing Black Panther in February so close to Valentine’s day be considered counter-programming or a briliant marketing move? We’ll find out soon enough.

Join us as Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) check out what’s opening in February. Continue reading After the Credits Episode 227: February Preview

Our current obsession

We spent the holiday break catching up on TV and movies and as a result, we have a slightly longer show than usual in which we cover a whole load of material including a wide swatch of Netflix originals – notably season 2 of The Crown which we all managed to consume.

This week, Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) are joined by Melissa (Letterboxd) who sits in to share her recent watched with us!

If you haven’t already subscribed to the show, you can do so on iTunes, Stitcher Radio, Pocket Casts and Google Podcasts and while there, be sure to drop us a rating. It doesn’t seem like a big deal but it helps us grow our audience!

Fingers crossed this is *actually* coming in January…

Here we go again.

We have said goodbye to 2017 and are kicking off the new year with our first preview of the year and it’s not exactly stellar.

January is commonly a mix of left over prestige pictures finally opening wide and a dumping ground for genre fare but this month does have a glimmering ray of hope – even if we haven’t seen anything about White Boy Rick.

Join us as Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd), special guest Melissa (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) check out what’s opening in January. Continue reading After the Credits Episode 224: January Preview

Guillermo del Toro does inter-species romance

How is it December already and where did 2017 go to?

It seems like only yesterday when we last reminisced about the upcoming holiday movies and Oscar season and yet, it’s been nearly a year since the last Star Wars movie. That feels like a lifetime ago! But time goes on and so does the show – at our new home!

The crew is reunited once more as Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) look towards the end of 2017 with trepidation. December is proving once again to be a busy month and though it might be some time before we get to see some of these titles make their way to Vancouver, there’s plenty opening wide to keep us and the rest of the movie-going audiences busy over the holidays.

Discovery: Haley Lu Richardson

If you’re looking for extensive coverage of what I saw during VIFF, I recommend checking out episodes 217, 218 & 219 in which the fest was covered because for this edidiotn of the Media Spew, fellow cohosts Colleen and Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) catch up on what we’ve been watching but stay fairly far from VIFF – other than on quick note in passing.
