Sean Baker strikes again!
Sean Baker strikes again!

The summer is now in full swing but where are the summer blockbusters? It seems that the year’s biggest titles have pretty much come and gone but that doesn’t mean all the summer fun is gone – it just means that summer fun looks a little different; a little more mature and more of a mix of arthouse and blockbuster. Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) are dig into the July bag of movies and emerge with a few notables.

Dope looks, well, dope!

Now that Mad Max: Fury Road (review) has come and gone, it feels like someone’s taken all the air out of the summer. What’s left? To help keep us on the ball, this month Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) are joined by special guest Sarah B (Twitter) to help energize the show and it works… we do manage to get a little excited about a couple of the movies. Not many, but a few.

Is it December yet?

FINALLY!
FINALLY!

The time is finally here. After months of waiting, Mad Max: Fury Road is finally opening. But there is more than Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy kicking ass this month and Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) take a look at some of the other movies opening in May, including a whole lot of what appears to be excellent counter programming.

Other stuff we talk about:

– Vancouver Co-Op Radio
– Damn Cougars Facebook page

Not soon enough!

It’s starting. Though we’ve had a handful of interesting (and good) titles in the first few months of the year, it looks like we’re finally into good movie season with a couple of big titles opening in April. The summer is about to kick off big time and Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) dig into the first batch of “summer” movies.

After the Credits Episode 168: Interview with Ruba Nadda

OctoberGale

I‘ve been a fan of Ruba Nadda since I saw Cairo Time a couple of years ago and when the chance to speak to speak with the Canadian director about her new romantic thriller October Gale came up, I jumped at the opportunity.

I really liked October Gale when I saw it at VIFF last year. It’s not the darkest of thrillers but it’s a great story of the hardships of working through loss and features fantastic perfomrances from Patricia Clarkson, Scott Speedman and Tim Roth.

During our chat, Ms. Nadda and I talk about her recent fascination with thrillers, the art of on-screen chemistry and the difficulties, especially in today’s landscape, of romances that simmer just below the surface.

October Gale is currently available on VOD and opens theatrically on Friday, March 6th.

We’re not really sure where February went but here we are, looking forward to March and all it has to offer which, sadly, isn’t much. And yet Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) do manage to find a few titles to get excited about. As usual.

We know how it happened but we don’t really know how it happened. How is it already February? In a slight state of shock, Colleen, Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd), get off track on Joan Collins and 80s soaps theme songs but along the way we also manage to look ahead to the movies coming out this month!

Other stuff we talk about:

SPARK FWD festival and conference
– NPR: On the Media – episode with Bob Garfield’s outtakes
– Joan Collins on Graham Norton show (I made a mistake, it’s a different show but still awesome)
– “Fifty Shades of Grey” on Say Wah?!

After the Credits Episode 164: Whistler Film Festvial Wrap

WFF2014

Four days of eating, drinking and movie watching are over and so is the Whistler Film Festival.

Just before saying goodbye to the village for another year, Colleen (adead.horse), Dale (Letterboxd) and I (Letterboxd) were joined by The Green Screen of Death podcast co-hosts Adrian Charlie (twitter) and Bill Harris (twitter) to count down both the good and bad of the festival.

The guys also recorded their own Whistler wrap show which you can download or stream.

Apparently, we were too loud for the library.
