Girls on Pop – Episode 11: Hollywood Hates Netflix

He’s baaaaack!

It’s here! The long awaited return of Sarah (@iBrockely)!

Sarah finally decided to take a break from school and we met up on a semi-clear, not so warm evening to record a show on the patio of a local dive bar.

We were mostly undisturbed except for the occasional interruption to order more food and beer. Sarah and I (@themarina) managed to have a pretty long winded conversation covering everything from a bunch of new trailers to recent hints from the Hollywood establishment that they’re not too thrilled with the way Netflix is throwing their billions around.

Girls on Pop – Episode 10: 2016 Counted Down

2016 has come and gone and though by the year’s half-way mark it looked like it might be one of the poorest movie years in some time, the latter part turned out to be an abundance of riches, offering up more than enough great movies to make up for the mostly dreadful first half.

So what did we think of last year’s movie crop? What turned out to be our favorites and not so faves? On this momentous episode of Girls on Pop – not only is this our first episode of 2017 but also our first in the double digits – I’m joined by newly minted Row Three contributor and all-around awesome movie maven Melissa McDowell (@MelsyTweets) to count down our favourite movies of 2016.

Along the way we also talk about the poor state of women in Hollywood, some of the close calls that didn’t quite make the list and one or two underrated gems just waiting for discovery.

Girls on Pop – Episode 9: So Many Movies!

Not soon enough
Not soon enough

After a few weeks of hiatus where one of us organized a festival and attended another while the other one went back to school, Sarah (@iBrockely) and I (@themarina) finally managed to carve out a bit of time this week to record another episode of the podcast.

With so many great movies playing at the moment, we skipped over much of our usual trailer talk to dig into a couple of recent movies while still finding time to fangirl just a little about the new Beauty and the Beast trailer!

Girls on Pop – Episode 8: Oh the Music!

The hero we need right now?
The hero we need right now?

We recorded this show during the final days of the Olympics last week and our recording was shortly preempted by a break to watch the relay race which leads us to kick things off this week with a bit of discussion of one of the biggest events in the world before Sarah (@iBrockely) and I (@themarina) dig into some talk about entertainment news and happenings including a couple of new trailers and some deep discussion on the future of the DC Extended Universe.

Girls on Pop – Episode 7: SDCC Madness

Glorious
OMG. OMG. OMG.

It may have sprung on me out of no-where but there’s no question that when SDCC kicked off late last week, I heard it all the way up in Vancouver – as did everyone else connected to the internet all over the world. I mean, did Netflix steal opening day or what?

Oh yeah, then DC came along and obliterated it with a trailer for this little movie they have coming out next year. I think it’s called Wonder Woman???

This week Sarah (@iBrockely) and I (@themarina) dig into some of the offerings unveiled at SDCC; from new trailers for stuff we were already excited about to “big” announcements that rocked the convention and geekdom in general.

Girls on Pop – Episode 6: MIA: Summer Movie Season Girls on Pop – Episode 3: The Last Hoorah

Logan & Veronica 4 Ever!
Logan & Veronica 4 Ever!

For the last few decades, summer movie season promised at least a dozen movies of varying degrees of awesome and featuring ridiculous plots, loads of action and maybe even a couple of end-of-the-world scenarios but this summer is proving to be a huge disappointment. Where have the summer movies gone?

This week Sarah (@iBrockely) and I (@themarina) talk Finding Dory, delve into the discussion of the missing summer movies and get a little deep with the current culture of what Marina dubs “Peter Pan Syndrome.”

SPOILER WARNING! We get spoilery with the Now You See Me 2 discussion but nobody cared about that movie and frankly, neither should you. Still, if you plan on seeing it down the road and don’t want to be spoiled on the details, you might want to skip ahead a few minutes once that discussion starts. It’s pretty short.

The second best reaction of the year

Can you believe it? Another episode already? There was just so much to talk about and we managed to find the time to record so why hold on to the gloriousness when you can enjoy it in a more timely manner? I mean, you want to fangirl with us right? And there is fangirling this week!

This week Sarah (@iBrockely) and I (@themarina) talk Hollywood news including announcement of the upcoming Flash movie director, the DCU “Rebrith” and our feelings on Netflix tracking our viewing habbits before we get into some movie talk.

SPOILER WARNING! We get spoilery with the Me Before You discussion for both the book and the movie and though we say that it’s the last thing we’re going to talk about but we lied! We couldn’t help ourselves and added a few things at the end so… the spoiler filled conversation starts at 00:52:00 and ends at 01:04:32.
